The ThermaDoor Story: Australia's Garage Door Insulation Pioneer
The ThermaDoor story began with a simple, powerful question from Australian homeowners: “I’ve insulated my house, how do I insulate my garage”?
For years, our founder — a licensed builder with over 45 years of on-site experience — saw that Australian garages were hot in summer, freezing in winter, and often unusable.
Standard insulation products weren’t designed for the unique stresses of a garage door, and there were no purpose-built solutions on the market. Driven by a passion for energy efficiency and practical design, the mission began: to create Australia’s first true garage door insulation.
After extensive research and hands-on prototyping, the design was perfected: a lightweight, high-performance panel combining a construction-grade EPS core, reflective foil backing to reduce radiant heat, and a tough, easy-to-clean vinyl face. It was a system that not only performed exceptionally well but was simple to retrofit without needing to replace the door.
Officially launched in 2012, ThermaDoor quickly gained attention for filling a critical gap in the market. Builders, homeowners, and energy assessors saw how it could improve home comfort, reduce energy costs, and support compliance with building standards.
Today, the ThermaDoor team continues that original mission: innovating and providing a reliable, compliant, and easy-to-install insulation that transforms underutilised garages into comfortable, valuable spaces all year round.
