All Aussie’s know that Victoria’s weather is unpredictable with sub‑zero mornings, hot northerly winds by lunch, then a cold southerly change at dusk. Uninsulated garage doors let that crazy weather straight into your home.

ThermaDoor. Engineered for Performance. Made for Australian Homes
ThermaDoor’s Plain range garage door insulation kits are designed for homeowners who want improved comfort without breaking the bank. Lightweight, easy to handle and effective, this range offers a smart solution for reducing some heat, cold and noise transfer through your garage door.
While our Premium range provides maximum thermal performance and engineered durability, the Plain range is ideal for those seeking low-cost garage insulation that still delivers results.
Unlike our Premium range, these materials aren’t originally engineered for garage doors and don’t come with garage specific R-values. They are plain polystyrene. However, they have been used in construction for many years in walls, floors and ceilings and will help to reduce heat, cold and outside noise.
For honest information about graphite polystyrene without the marketing spin, read Graphite Garage Door Insulation: A DIY Kit That Does the Job (Honestly)
No problems! All of our distributors are industry pros who know exactly what they’re doing – we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Every install professionally completed includes the important air gap (not glued), and a professional spring adjustment to accommodate for the minimal additional weight.
For DIY we always recommend that you call an experienced garage door technician to adjust the springs for you once the job is done.
Yes. But only if R-values are calculated for garage doors specifically – wall, ceiling and material (standalone) R-values don’t cut it. ThermaDoor Premium is purpose made for garage doors. Our R-values R1.48 (winter) / R1.43 (summer) are independently calculated by a thermal engineer under AS/NZS 4859.1 & 2:2018 – the referenced document in NCC 2022.
For new builds required to meet 7-star ratings, include these values in your NatHERS modelling. (See our Verified R-value guide).
Both options are available, but they’re different. ThermaDoor Premium is available as DIY or supply & install. In Victoria we have distributors who supply & install only (not DIY) -including Fantastic Garage Door Service & Repairs (Pakenham), Geelong Garage Doors (Geelong), and Oxley’s Doors & More (Mildura). Spring adjustment is included in a pro install.
For both Premium and Budget DIY kits – order the kits directly online. The shop process talks you through the easy steps to do this. (Compare DIY vs supply & install on our Insulation page).
Graphite (black) polystyrene is a general construction material that’s been manufactured in Australia and used for well over a decade. It’s not purpose made nor undergone testing for garage doors. Claims like “the highest thermally rated insulation in Australia” are not backed up with any evidence. Manufacturers generally note it may delivery 10 – 20% higher thermal resistance than plain white EPS of the same density and thickness, but there are no calculated R-values for GPS in a garage door. That’s why it’s a budget product – it can improve comfort – but if you want top performance with the comfort of knowing exactly what you are paying for – choose ThermaDoor Premium.
