Australia's Only Purpose-Built, Independently Tested Garage Door Insulation

Is your garage a no-go zone in summer and winter? For most Australian homes, the garage door is the largest uninsulated opening in the building — making the space unusable in extreme weather and driving up energy bills. ThermaDoor changes that.

Engineered specifically for Australian conditions and independently tested to AS/NZS 4859.2:2018, ThermaDoor is the only purpose-built garage door insulation system on the market. Unlike repurposed wall batts or generic foam boards, our laminated panels are designed to work with your existing sectional or tilt door — delivering verified thermal performance and a professional finish that lasts.

What Makes ThermaDoor Different

Most products sold as garage door insulation are generic building materials — wall batts, PIR panels, foil wraps, or plain polystyrene sheets adapted for a use they were never designed for. ThermaDoor is different. Every panel is engineered specifically for the daily movement and thermal demands of a garage door system, and independently tested to Australian Standards. Here’s what’s inside every kit.

Three Layers. Engineered as One

High-Density EPS Core

Expanded polystyrene foam delivers superior thermal resistance — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year.

UV-Stable Vinyl Facing

Durable, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the panel from the elements and delivers a clean, professional finish that holds up in Australia's harsh climate.

Sisalation Foil Backing

The same foil used to wrap Australian homes for thermal protection. Bonded to the back of every panel, it blocks radiant heat transfer for an additional layer of performance.

Why Lamination Changes Everything

Those three layers only work because of how they’re put together. Most garage door insulation products are simply loose materials inserted into a door — they shift, separate, and fail over time. ThermaDoor is different. Every panel is engineered specifically for garage doors, and every panel is heat-laminated using the same process applied in luxury caravan and marine interior manufacturing.

Lamination fuses the EPS core, UV-stable vinyl facing, and construction-grade sisalation foil into a single, cohesive panel. There is no glue to fail, no layers to separate, and no air bubbles to compromise performance. The result is a purpose-built system that performs as one — not three repurposed materials trying to work together.

Built for Australian Conditions

Built to Last

A 35mm flame-retardant polystyrene core with a durable vinyl face. Handles the daily movement of a garage door — no sagging, no crumbling, no falling apart.

Verified R-Values

R1.48 (winter) / R1.43 (summer) — independently calculated to AS/NZS 4859.2:2018 and backed by engineering reports. The only garage door insulation kit in Australia with dual-season, door assembly values.

Lightweight Design

Adds just 7–8kg to a standard double door. Spring tension is easily adjusted — no structural concerns, no door damage.

Fire Resistant

Made with a flame-retardant polystyrene core. Self-extinguishes on contact with flame in accordance with Australian standards for flammability testing.

The Original. The Only Purpose-Built. The Only Independently Calculated

ThermaDoor has been on the Australian market since 2012 — and in that time, no other brand has matched what we offer:

Before and after surface temperature readings of a garage door with and without ThermaDoor insulation
Before: 61°C surface temp. After ThermaDoor: 31°C. Disclaimer: Temperatures may vary depending on orientation and location of garage.

Verified R-Values You Can Trust

Under AS/NZS 4859.2:2018, insulation R-values used for building compliance must be calculated as system (assembly) values — not just the raw material. Most garage door insulation products only quote material values based on walls, floors, or ceilings. These numbers do not reflect how the product actually performs once installed in a moving garage door.

ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation kit in Australia with independently calculated, dual-season door assembly R-values:

R1.48 (winter) / R1.43 (summer)

These values are calculated by a qualified thermal engineer to AS/NZS 4859.1 and AS/NZS 4859.2:2018 for the complete installed door assembly — not just the insulation panel on its own. Standard uninsulated steel garage doors perform at approximately R0.0, providing virtually no thermal resistance.

Our article on thermal bridging and garage doors explains why tested assembly values matter.

What ThermaDoor Insulation Actually Does For Your Home

Temperature Control

A standard steel garage door has an R-value of approximately R0.0 — it provides no thermal resistance at all. In summer, this turns your garage into an oven that radiates heat directly into your home. ThermaDoor brings the door assembly to R1.48 (winter) / R1.43 (summer), significantly reducing heat transfer in both directions.

Lower Energy Bills

When your garage is better insulated, your home’s heating and cooling system doesn’t have to work as hard to compensate for the heat or cold coming through the garage wall. The result is a measurable reduction in energy use — with R-values you can actually verify.

Noise Reduction

The 35mm high-density EPS core absorbs sound as well as heat. If your garage faces a busy road, or if your garage is directly connected to your living area, the difference in noise levels after installation is noticeable.

Protection for Your Belongings

Extreme temperature swings damage stored items — tools, sports equipment, paint, electronics, and vehicles all suffer in an uninsulated garage. Stable temperatures protect what you store.

A More Usable Space

An insulated garage is a comfortable garage. Homeowners across Australia are converting their insulated garages into home gyms, offices, workshops, studios, and playrooms — spaces that are genuinely usable year-round.

Protects Your Door and Motor

Correct installation, including proper spring adjustment for the added panel weight, actually extends the life of your garage door mechanism and motor by ensuring it operates within its designed parameters.

“I’ve been in the garage door industry for 30 years and the ThermaDoor product is the best I’ve seen. The workmanship and quality of the product is excellent, and I have recommended them to many, many people during my time.”
