Garage Door Insulation R Value: Tested, Compliant and Purpose Built
Download Our Reports
Officially tested by James Fricker, an independent consulting thermal engineer.
Don’t overlook the garage door insulation R value when designing for a 7-star NatHERS rating under NCC 2022. ThermaDoor is Australia’s original, and only purpose-built garage door insulation with independently tested R values. It’s designed specifically for garage doors – not repurposed wall, floor or ceiling products, and can make the difference between meeting or missing your energy efficiency targets.
Why Garage Door Insulation R Values Matter in NatHERS & NCC 2022
Most insulation products are not tested on garage doors
Unverified R-values can cause incorrect energy ratings
ThermaDoor is specifically designed for sectional and tilt doors
Proven performance boosts thermal efficiency
ThermaDoor Garage Door Insulation R-Value
- R1.48 (Winter)
- R1.43 (Summer)
These values are modelled for garage door use and suitable for inclusion in NatHERS simulations.
Tested to Australian Standards: AS/NZS 4859.1 & 2:2018
ThermaDoor garage door insulation R values are calculated by an independent certified engineer using:
- AS/NZS 4859.1:2018 – Thermal insulation materials for buildings. Part 1: General criteria and technical provisions
- AS/NZS 4859.2:2018 – Thermal insulation materials for buildings. Part 2: Design
- Australian Institute of Refrigeration Air-conditioning & Heating (AIRAH) Handbook (Edition 5, 2013)
- ASHRAE Fundamentals Handbook (where necessary)
AS/NZS 4859 is a referenced document in both NCC2019 and NCC2022, meaning ThermaDoor’s performance is modelled in line with the standards recognised in the National Construction Code for designing energy efficient homes.
Why choose ThermaDoor Garage Door Insulation Premium Range?
- True R-values for garage doors
- Tested to AS/NZS4859 standards
- Supports NatHERS 7 Star ratings
- Moisture and UV resistant
- Designed for harsh Australian Conditions
Maximise your energy rating
Make sure your energy assessor includes ThermaDoor’s tested R values when modelling the garage door. It can provide a valuable thermal upgrade to help achieve a 7 Star rating – especially in climate zones where performance margins are tight.
