Building to 7 stars? ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation with the engineering documentation your energy assessor needs.

New South Wales features some of Australia’s most diverse climates, from the intense humidity of the Sydney basin to the dry, searing heat of the western plains and the freezing winters of the Blue Mountains. An uninsulated metal garage door offers zero resistance to these extremes, turning your garage into an oven in summer and an icebox in winter. ThermaDoor provides purpose-built, Australian-made garage door insulation designed to block radiant heat and stop winter heat loss. Whether you need a DIY kit delivered to your door anywhere in the state, or professional installation through our growing network of local distributors, ThermaDoor delivers tested, proven results for NSW homes. Select your region below to get started.

The Original. Still the Only.

ThermaDoor has been on the Australian market since 2012 — and in that time, no other brand has matched what we offer:

Before and after surface temperature readings of a garage door with and without ThermaDoor insulation
Before: 61°C surface temp. After ThermaDoor: 31°C. Disclaimer: Temperatures may vary depending on orientation and location of garage.

Three Layers. Engineered as One

High-Density EPS Core

Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year.

UV-Stable Vinyl Facing

Durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the panel from Australia's harsh climate. It resists fading, cracking, and weathering — delivering a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

Sisalation Foil Backing

Bonded to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat, acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier, and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification. It's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes — completing the three-layer system.

Garage Door Insulation for Sydney Homes

Sydney’s climate is deceptively demanding. Summer surface temperatures on a north or west-facing metal garage door regularly exceed 60°C, driving radiant heat directly into your home. Winter mornings in the outer suburbs, Blue Mountains, and Southern Highlands can drop below freezing — and an uninsulated steel garage door offers virtually no resistance to either extreme.

ThermaDoor is purpose-built for Australian conditions — independently tested to AS/NZS 4859.2:2018 with declared assembly R-values of R1.43 (winter) / R1.39 (summer). It is the only garage door insulation product on the market with dual-season, door assembly R-values calculated by a qualified thermal engineer — not adapted wall or ceiling values. For Sydney homeowners, that means real, measurable performance you can verify before you buy.

Verified R-Values You Can Trust

Thermal Bridging Through Steel Garage Door Hardware — FLIR Thermal Image

Surface temperature readings: 37.6°C at the steel hinge (thermal bridge) / 32.6°C at the ThermaDoor panel

What you are seeing: The blue areas show ThermaDoor panels doing their job — blocking radiant heat. The red and orange areas are the steel hinges and panel joins conducting heat straight through the door. This is thermal bridging, and it happens in every sectional garage door. It is why material R-values alone do not tell the full story — and why ThermaDoor’s R-values are calculated on the complete installed door assembly, steel and all.

Calculated on the Complete Installed Door – Not Just the Insulation Material

You have probably noticed that on your garage door, the metal frame, hinges, and joins get burning hot in summer. That heat travels through the steel and straight into your garage — this is called thermal bridging. It is why the R-value of the insulation panel alone does not tell you how well your garage door actually performs.

Under Australian Standards, insulation R-values for building compliance must be calculated as system (assembly) values — not just the material value. ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation kit in Australia with independently calculated, dual-season door assembly R-values:

R1.43 (winter) / R1.39 (summer)

ThermaDoor provides honest R-values — independently verified, calculated on the complete installed door, and published for anyone to review.

These values are calculated by a qualified thermal engineer to AS/NZS 4859.1 and AS/NZS 4859.2:2018. Standard uninsulated steel garage doors perform at approximately R0.0, providing virtually no thermal resistance.

When evaluating any garage door insulation product, always ask for the independent engineering report. If a supplier cannot provide one, the R-value they are quoting is not verified.

In New South Wales, the difference between a material R-value and a tested door assembly R-value is the difference between a product that looks good on paper and one that actually keeps your garage cooler. ThermaDoor’s R1.43 is tested on a complete installed door — steel, hinges, and all.

Our article on thermal bridging and garage doors explains why tested assembly values matter.

Frequently Asked Questions Garage Door Insulation New South Wales

Do you deliver DIY garage door insulation kits to regional NSW?

Yes, ThermaDoor DIY kits can be shipped to any postcode across New South Wales, from coastal towns to inland and regional areas. Our kits come complete with everything you need for a straightforward installation.

Absolutely. Sydney experiences high summer humidity and intense radiant heat, which easily penetrates uninsulated metal garage doors. ThermaDoor’s EPS core reflects the heat, keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer. It also traps warmth during the cooler winter months, improving your home’s overall energy efficiency.

We have a growing network of authorised distributors across New South Wales, including Western Sydney, the Central Coast, and the Newcastle/Hunter Valley regions. Select your specific region from the grid above to find the contact details for your nearest professional installer.

ThermaDoor panels are specifically designed to fit the vast majority of sectional and panelift garage doors sold in Australia, including popular brands like B&D, Steel-Line, and Gliderol.

Yes. ThermaDoor is 100% Australian made and owned. It was engineered specifically for the harsh Australian climate and has been independently tested to meet strict Australian Standards for thermal performance.

Yes — and Sydney’s climate is one of the strongest arguments for it. A north or west-facing metal garage door can reach surface temperatures of 60°C or more on a hot Sydney summer day, radiating heat directly into your home. ThermaDoor’s three-layer system — high-density EPS core, UV-stable vinyl facing, and sisalation foil backing — blocks radiant heat, slows conducted heat transfer, and reflects thermal energy away from the door. Independent testing shows surface temperature reductions of up to 30°C after installation.

The cost of ThermaDoor depends on your door size — single or double — and whether you choose a DIY kit or professional supply and installation. You can browse all available panel sizes and current pricing with no obligation to buy on our Shop DIY Panels page. For professional supply and installation, contact us directly and we will provide a quote based on your door size and Sydney location.
