Home / Garage Door Insulation Sunshine Coast – DIY & Pro Install

Purpose-Built. Independently Tested. Since 2012.

On the Sunshine Coast, humid afternoons and salty sea breezes can turn your garage into a sauna. Cool Hinterland nights and sudden southerly changes mean temperatures can swing dramatically after dark. From Caloundra to Noosa and into the Hinterland, these shifts affect more than just the garage. They impact the comfort of nearby rooms, drive up your energy bills, and cut off a valuable part of your home year-round.

ThermaDoor garage door insulation is purpose-built for the Sunshine Coast climate. Our premium EPS panels are engineered specifically for sectional and tilt doors to block up to 90% of radiant heat, reduce street noise, and instantly upgrade your garage with a durable, wipe-clean vinyl finish.

Proudly Australian owned and manufactured, we offer two simple ways to get ThermaDoor on the Sunshine Coast: order a DIY kit delivered directly to your door, or book a professional installation with our certified local technicians.

Locally Based. Australian Made.

ThermaDoor is headquartered on the Sunshine Coast, with our factory at Chevallum. When you buy ThermaDoor, you’re buying Australian made insulation from a local business that knows the Queensland climate firsthand.

Built for the Sunshine Coast Climate

Tropical Heat & Humidity

Sunshine Coast temps regularly exceed 30°C with high humidity that turns an uninsulated garage into a sauna. ThermaDoor's EPS core and reflective foil backing work together to keep the heat out and the comfort in.

Storm Season Protection

ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish is water resistant and impact resistant — unlike open-cell foam, polyester batts, or fibreglass insulation that absorb moisture and fail in wet conditions. Built for Queensland weather.

Cool Winter Mornings

Even in the subtropics, Hinterland nights and winter mornings can bite. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight, so stepping into your garage in the morning isn't a shock to the system.

The Original. Still the Only.

ThermaDoor has been on the Australian market since 2012 — and in that time, no other brand has matched what we offer:

Before and after surface temperature readings of a garage door with and without ThermaDoor insulation
Before: 61°C surface temp. After ThermaDoor: 31°C. Disclaimer: Temperatures may vary depending on orientation and location of garage.

Verified R-Values You Can Trust

Under Australian Standards, insulation R-values used for building compliance must be calculated as system (assembly) values — not just the raw material.

Most garage door insulation products only quote R-values based on walls, floors, or ceilings or material values.  These numbers do not reflect how the product actually performs once installed in a moving garage door.

ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation kit in Australia with independently calculated, dual-season door assembly R-values:

R1.43 (winter) / R1.39 (summer)

These values are calculated by a qualified thermal engineer to AS/NZS 4859.1 and AS/NZS 4859.2:2018 for the complete installed door assembly — not just the insulation panel on its own. Standard uninsulated steel garage doors perform at approximately R0.0, providing virtually no thermal resistance.

Our article on thermal bridging and garage doors explains why tested assembly values matter.

Three Layers. Engineered as One

High-Density EPS Core

Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year.

UV-Stable Vinyl Facing

Durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the panel from Australia's harsh climate. It resists fading, cracking, and weathering — delivering a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

Sisalation Foil Backing

Bonded to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat, acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier, and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification. It's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes — completing the three-layer system.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

David Dee

Karen and the crew were fantastic to deal with from start to finish. The product is amazing and has decreased the temperature in our garage by 10–15 degrees C and also decreased the temp in our house. It was super easy to self install. Massive thumbs up!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Paul Bonner

“Our garage was very hot and a suggestion from a friend meant that we contact ThermaDoor. From the initial contact to the completion, the company was very professional. The product is very good and I would definitely get their team to install. Today Don arrived on time and got the job done very quickly. The addition of the door seals was a good decision as they remove any dust and breeze that used to come through the sides and top.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lorraine Lazzar

“Garage temps have dropped 4–6°C since installation and so glad we installed the ThermaDoor panels. We built a new house in 2023/2024 and the garage door gets full western sun every afternoon. I made sure to take note of our garage temps before installation and noticed immediately after installation the temp dropped 4–6°C in summer and in winter it’s not as cold. I also noticed the noise is reduced.”

Frequently Asked Questions - Garage Door Insulation Sunshine Coast

How much does garage door insulation cost

Typical supply and install range: $910 – $1200 for a double door. ThermaDoor (verified R1.43, vinyl face, sisalation foil back) lands at the top end of that bracket because its purpose made, includes mechanical fixing (not glued in) and spring adjustment.

Typical DIY range: $580 – $870 for a double door. Price estimate does not include freight.

The Sunshine Coast experiences high humidity, salty air, and hot summers that can turn garages into ovens. Insulating your garage door with ThermaDoor helps block radiant heat, reduces temperature fluctuations and helps keep adjoining rooms more comfortable – especially during Queensland’s sweltering days.

A confident DIYer can finish a double sectional door in about 3 hours using ThermaDoor’s pre-cut kit. Prefer a pro job? Our authorised garage door pros supply, fit and spring balance in around 2 hours – depending on the job.

Yes. ThermaDoor is purpose built for Australian homes and performs exceptionally well in coastal climates. The durable vinyl laminated surface resists moisture and salt air and provides further protection to the construction grade EPS core – it won’t degrade or become waterlogged over time due to humid environments.
