Home / Garage Door Insulation Sydney South West

Purpose-Built. Independently Tested. Since 2012.

Sydney South West is one of Australia’s fastest growing urban regions. Summer temperatures in Campbelltown, Liverpool and the Macarthur district regularly exceed 40°C — and with thousands of new homes built each year, garages are a major source of heat entering the home. An uninsulated garage door turns your garage into a furnace and pushes that heat straight into your living areas. In winter, the same door bleeds warmth overnight. Whether you are in Campbelltown, Liverpool, Narellan, Ingleburn or anywhere across Sydney South West, the temperature inside your garage has a direct impact on your home’s comfort, energy bills and how much of that space you can actually use. If you have been searching Sydney South West for garage door insulation that genuinely works, ThermaDoor delivers tested, purpose-built results.

ThermaDoor is Australia’s original, purpose-built garage door insulation. Designed specifically for sectional and tilt doors, our premium EPS panels block radiant heat, reduce street noise, and instantly upgrade the look of your garage with a durable, wipe-clean vinyl finish.

Proudly Australian owned and manufactured, we offer two simple ways to insulate your garage: order a DIY kit delivered anywhere in Sydney South West or connect with an authorised ThermaDoor distributor in your area.

Australian Made. Australian Owned.

ThermaDoor is designed and manufactured in Queensland, with our factory at Chevallum on the Sunshine Coast. When you order a ThermaDoor DIY kit for delivery to Sydney South West, you are buying Australian made insulation from a business that has engineered its product specifically for the Australian climate.

Built for Sydney South West's Climate

Scorching Summers & the Urban Heat Island

Sydney South West sits in one of Australia's hottest inland corridors. Campbelltown and Liverpool regularly record temperatures above 40°C in summer — and with little coastal breeze to provide relief, garages heat up fast and stay hot well into the evening. ThermaDoor's EPS core and reflective foil backing work together to block radiant heat and keep the garage usable, whether your door faces north, west, or straight into the afternoon sun.

Extreme Temperature Swings

Sydney South West can swing 20°C or more between a summer morning and afternoon. An uninsulated garage door offers no resistance to that heat load — the space heats up fast and stays hot long after sunset. ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish is water resistant and impact resistant, unlike open-cell foam, polyester batts, or fibreglass insulation that absorb moisture and deteriorate over time. Built to handle whatever Sydney South West throws at it.

Cold Winters — Warmer Than You Think

Sydney South West winters are cooler than the coast, with overnight temperatures regularly dropping to 2–5°C in Campbelltown and the Macarthur foothills. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight, so stepping into your garage on a winter morning is not the shock to the system it used to be — and your stored gear, tools, and vehicles stay protected from the cold year-round.

The Original. Still the Only.

ThermaDoor has been on the Australian market since 2012 — and in that time, no other brand has matched what we offer:

Before and after surface temperature readings of a garage door with and without ThermaDoor insulation
Before: 61°C surface temp. After ThermaDoor: 31°C. Disclaimer: Temperatures may vary depending on orientation and location of garage.
Thermal Bridging Through Steel Garage Door Hardware — FLIR Thermal Image

Surface temperature readings: 37.6°C at the steel hinge (thermal bridge) / 32.6°C at the ThermaDoor panel

What you are seeing: The blue areas show ThermaDoor panels doing their job — blocking radiant heat. The red and orange areas are the steel hinges and panel joins conducting heat straight through the door. This is thermal bridging, and it happens in every sectional garage door. It is why material R-values alone do not tell the full story — and why ThermaDoor’s R-values are calculated on the complete installed door assembly, steel and all.

Verified R-Values You Can Trust

Calculated on the Complete Installed Door – Not Just the Insulation Material

You have probably noticed that even with insulation on your garage door, the metal frame, hinges, and joins still get burning hot in summer. That heat travels through the steel and straight into your garage — this is called thermal bridging. It is why the R-value of the insulation panel alone does not tell you how well your garage door actually performs.

Under Australian Standards, insulation R-values for building compliance must be calculated as system (assembly) values — not just the material value. ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation kit in Australia with independently calculated, dual-season door assembly R-values:

R1.43 (winter) / R1.39 (summer)

ThermaDoor provides honest R-values — independently verified, calculated on the complete installed door, and published for anyone to review.

These values are calculated by a qualified thermal engineer to AS/NZS 4859.1 and AS/NZS 4859.2:2018. Standard uninsulated steel garage doors perform at approximately R0.0, providing virtually no thermal resistance.

When evaluating any garage door insulation product, always ask for the independent engineering report. If a supplier cannot provide one, the R-value they are quoting is not verified.

Air Gap Purpose-built thermal break between panel and door
Includes Steel & Hinges Yes — tested on the complete installed door assembly

In Sydney’s intense summer heat, the difference between a material R-value and a tested door assembly R-value is the difference between a product that looks good on paper and one that actually keeps your garage cooler. ThermaDoor’s R1.43 is tested on a complete installed door — steel, hinges, and all.

Our article on thermal bridging and garage doors explains why tested assembly values matter.

Three Layers. Engineered as One

High-Density EPS Core

Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year.

UV-Stable Vinyl Facing

Durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the panel from Australia's harsh climate. It resists fading, cracking, and weathering — delivering a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

Sisalation Foil Backing

Bonded to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat, acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier, and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification. It's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes — completing the three-layer system.

Step 1: What brand is your garage door?

Your door brand determines the panel thickness required.

What is your panel thickness?

How do I measure my panel thickness?
How to measure panel thickness: Open your garage door and look at the edge of one of the door panels from the side. Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the thickness of the panel from the front face to the back face. This is your panel thickness. Most Steel-Line doors are either 30mm or 35mm.

Step 2: How many panels does your door have?

Count the individual panel sections across the full width of your door.

This door requires 2 kits. When you reach the shop, make sure you fill in both kit dropdowns with the correct size before adding to cart.

Step 3: Measure your panels

Measure every panel, then enter the largest measurement below.

⚠ Measure every panel before entering anything

Panels on the same door are often different sizes. If you only measure one panel and it turns out not to be the largest, your kit will be too small. Measure all panels first, then enter the longest length and largest height below.

Frequently Asked Questions: Garage Door Insulation Sydney South West

Does garage door insulation make a real difference in Sydney South West's climate?

Yes — and Sydney South West is one of the most challenging climates for an uninsulated garage in Australia. Campbelltown and Liverpool sit well inland, away from the moderating influence of the coast, and regularly record summer temperatures above 40°C. An uninsulated steel garage door absorbs and radiates that heat directly into the garage and the adjoining rooms of the home. ThermaDoor’s reflective foil outer layer, EPS foam core, and laminated vinyl finish work together to block radiant heat, slow conductive heat transfer, and keep the garage at a usable temperature year-round.

Yes. ThermaDoor DIY kits ship directly to any address across Sydney South West, including Campbelltown, Narellan, Narellan Vale, Gledswood Hills, Mount Annan, Oran Park, Gregory Hills, Spring Farm, Liverpool, Prestons, Casula, Edmondson Park, Austral, Leppington, and all surrounding suburbs. Each kit arrives complete with panels, clips, and full instructions — everything you need to install it yourself in a few hours. No trades required.

Yes. We have three authorised ThermaDoor distributors servicing the Sydney South West region — All Style Doors in Smeaton Grange, Garage Doors Done Right in Narellan, and Total Seal Garage Solutions in Gledswood Hills. Each distributor supplies and professionally installs ThermaDoor insulation systems. Contact any of them directly or reach out to ThermaDoor and we will connect you with the right installer for your area.

Absolutely. West-facing garage doors in Campbelltown and the Macarthur district receive direct afternoon sun from around 1pm onwards, which can push internal garage temperatures well above 50°C on summer days. ThermaDoor’s reflective foil outer layer reflects radiant heat before it enters the door panel, and the EPS foam core slows conductive heat transfer through the steel. Customers with west-facing doors consistently report the most dramatic temperature reductions — often 15–20°C or more inside the garage

Most homeowners complete a standard single garage door in 2–3 hours with no special tools required. A double garage door typically takes 3–4 hours. The panels are pre-cut to standard sizes, the clips simply press into the door panel ribs, and full written and video instructions are included with every kit. If you run into any questions during installation, our team is available by phone and email to walk you through it.

Yes. ThermaDoor is purpose-built for both sectional (panel lift) doors and tilt doors — the two most common door types across the Macarthur district and Liverpool area. The panels are pre-cut to standard sizes and can be easily trimmed to fit your specific door. If you are unsure which kit suits your door, contact us with your door brand and we will confirm the correct panel thickness and count before you order.

Yes. ThermaDoor is designed, owned, and manufactured in Queensland at our factory in Chevallum on the Sunshine Coast. It is the original purpose-built garage door insulation on the Australian market, established in 2012 — and the only product with independently calculated, dual-season door assembly R-values of R1.43 (winter) / R1.39 (summer) under AS/NZS 4859.2:2018. When you order ThermaDoor for your Sydney South West garage, you are buying Australian-made insulation engineered specifically for Australian conditions.
