Home / Garage Door Insulation Mid North Coast NSW

Purpose-Built. Independently Tested. Since 2012.

The Mid North Coast experiences some of Australia’s most varied coastal conditions. From the intense summer heat and humidity in towns like Port Macquarie and Forster to the cooler winter mornings inland around Taree and Wingham, your garage is on the frontline. An uninsulated garage door acts as a giant thermal conductor, turning the space into a sauna during summer and a cold box in winter.

These temperature extremes affect more than just the garage. They impact the comfort of adjoining living areas, drive up your cooling and heating costs, and restrict how you use a significant portion of your home.

Part of the ThermaDoor New South Wales network.

ThermaDoor garage door insulation is purpose-built for the Mid North Coast climate. Our premium EPS panels are engineered specifically for sectional and tilt doors to block up to 90% of radiant heat, reduce street noise, and instantly upgrade your garage with a durable, wipe-clean vinyl finish.

Proudly Australian owned and manufactured, we offer two simple ways to get ThermaDoor on the Mid North Coast: order a DIY kit delivered directly to your door, or book a professional installation with our certified local technicians.

Australian Made. Australian Owned.

ThermaDoor is designed and manufactured in Queensland, with our factory at Chevallum on the Sunshine Coast. When you order ThermaDoor for the Mid North Coast or anywhere in New South Wales, you are buying Australian made insulation from a business that has engineered its product specifically for the Australian climate.

Built for the Mid North Coast's Climate

Built for Coastal Heat & Humidity

From the humid summer heat of Port Macquarie to the sticky coastal afternoons in Forster and Tuncurry, ThermaDoor dramatically reduces radiant heat transfer, keeping your garage significantly cooler during long, humid summers.

Moisture and Salt Air Resistant

The Mid North Coast's coastal exposure brings salt air, high humidity, and seasonal rainfall. ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish is water-resistant and won't absorb moisture, unlike open-cell foam or polyester batts that can sag, degrade, and hold dampness over time.

Cold Winters, Damp Mornings

Inland areas like Taree and Wingham experience cooler overnight temperatures and damp winter mornings. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight, so stepping into your garage on a winter morning is no longer a shock — and your stored gear stays protected year-round.

Unlock the Potential of Your Garage

What Changes When You Insulate Your Garage Door

With a stable, comfortable temperature year-round, Mid North Coast homeowners are reclaiming their garages as usable living spaces.

Here is how ThermaDoor changes what you can do with your garage.

Home Gyms

Train comfortably year-round — no more sweltering summers or chilly winters.

Home Offices

Quieter, more stable temperatures for better focus and lower energy bills.

Man Caves

A retreat that stays cool in summer and warm in winter for real downtime.

Hobby Studios

Consistent conditions that protect materials and make projects more enjoyable.

Playrooms

A safer, more comfortable space for children’s play – fewer drafts and hot/cold spots.

Pet Rooms

A calmer climate for pets, reducing heat stress in summer and chills in winter.

The Original. Still the Only.

ThermaDoor has been on the Australian market since 2012 — and in that time, no other brand has matched what we offer:

Before and after surface temperature readings of a garage door with and without ThermaDoor insulation
Before: 61°C surface temp. After ThermaDoor: 31°C. Disclaimer: Temperatures may vary depending on orientation and location of garage.
Thermal Bridging Through Steel Garage Door Hardware — FLIR Thermal Image

Surface temperature readings: 37.6°C at the steel hinge (thermal bridge) / 32.6°C at the ThermaDoor panel

What you are seeing: The blue areas show ThermaDoor panels doing their job — blocking radiant heat. The red and orange areas are the steel hinges and panel joins conducting heat straight through the door. This is thermal bridging, and it happens in every sectional garage door. It is why material R-values alone do not tell the full story — and why ThermaDoor’s R-values are calculated on the complete installed door assembly, steel and all.

Verified R-Values You Can Trust

Calculated on the Complete Installed Door – Not Just the Insulation Material

You have probably noticed that even with insulation on your garage door, the metal frame, hinges, and joins still get burning hot in summer. That heat travels through the steel and straight into your garage — this is called thermal bridging. It is why the R-value of the insulation panel alone does not tell you how well your garage door actually performs.

Under Australian Standards, insulation R-values for building compliance must be calculated as system (assembly) values — not just the material value. ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation kit in Australia with independently calculated, dual-season door assembly R-values:

R1.43 (winter) / R1.39 (summer)

ThermaDoor provides honest R-values — independently verified, calculated on the complete installed door, and published for anyone to review.

These values are calculated by a qualified thermal engineer to AS/NZS 4859.1 and AS/NZS 4859.2:2018. Standard uninsulated steel garage doors perform at approximately R0.0, providing virtually no thermal resistance.

When evaluating any garage door insulation product, always ask for the independent engineering report. If a supplier cannot provide one, the R-value they are quoting is not verified.

On the Mid North Coast NSW, the difference between a material R-value and a tested door assembly R-value is the difference between a product that looks good on paper and one that actually keeps your garage cooler. ThermaDoor’s R1.43 is tested on a complete installed door — steel, hinges, and all.

Our article on thermal bridging and garage doors explains why tested assembly values matter.

Three Layers. Engineered as One

High-Density EPS Core

Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year.

UV-Stable Vinyl Facing

Durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the panel from Australia's harsh climate. It resists fading, cracking, and weathering — delivering a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

Sisalation Foil Backing

Bonded to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat, acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier, and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification. It's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes — completing the three-layer system.

Step 1: What brand is your garage door?

Your door brand determines the panel thickness required.

What is your panel thickness?

How do I measure my panel thickness?
How to measure panel thickness: Open your garage door and look at the edge of one of the door panels from the side. Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the thickness of the panel from the front face to the back face. This is your panel thickness. Most Steel-Line doors are either 30mm or 35mm.

Step 2: How many panels does your door have?

Count the individual panel sections across the full width of your door.

This door requires 2 kits. When you reach the shop, make sure you fill in both kit dropdowns with the correct size before adding to cart.

Step 3: Measure your panels

Measure every panel, then enter the largest measurement below.

⚠ Measure every panel before entering anything

Panels on the same door are often different sizes. If you only measure one panel and it turns out not to be the largest, your kit will be too small. Measure all panels first, then enter the longest length and largest height below.
