Purpose Built

For Garage Door Systems

Building to 7 stars? ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation with the engineering documentation your energy assessor needs.

Purpose-Built. Independently Tested. Since 2012.

The temperature inside your garage has a massive impact on your home’s comfort and energy efficiency. With Perth’s intense summer heat and cool winter mornings, an uninsulated garage door acts like a giant radiator, transferring extreme temperatures directly into your home.

ThermaDoor is Australia’s original, purpose-built garage door insulation. Designed specifically for sectional and tilt doors, our premium EPS panels block radiant heat, reduce street noise, and instantly upgrade the look of your garage with a durable, wipe-clean vinyl finish.

Proudly Australian owned and manufactured, ThermaDoor is available across Perth and Western Australia exclusively through Garage Door Insulation Perth — our official WA stockist. Contact them directly for DIY kits delivered anywhere in WA, or to arrange professional supply and installation across the Perth metro area.

Australian Made. Australian Owned.

ThermaDoor is designed and manufactured in Queensland, with our factory at Chevallum on the Sunshine Coast. When you order ThermaDoor in Perth or anywhere in WA, you are buying Australian made insulation from a business that has engineered its product specifically for the Australian climate.

Built for Perth & Western Australia's Climate

Intense Summer Heat

Perth summers are famously relentless. Weeks of 35°C+ days turn metal garage doors into giant radiators, pushing garage temperatures well over 50°C. ThermaDoor's EPS core and reflective foil backing work together to block radiant heat, keeping your garage significantly cooler even when your door faces the harsh afternoon sun.

Coastal Conditions & The 'Freo Doctor'

While the afternoon sea breeze brings relief, your garage has usually spent the entire day baking. ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish not only brightens the space but is highly durable and easy to wipe clean. Unlike batts or open-cell foam that degrade over time, our panels maintain their structural integrity year after year in WA conditions.

Chilly Winter Mornings

Perth might be known for its heat, but winter mornings regularly drop into single digits. An uninsulated garage bleeds your home's warmth straight out the door. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight, so stepping into your garage on a July morning isn't a shock to the system, and your stored gear stays protected from extreme fluctuations.

Meeting Western Australia's 7-Star Energy Standards

Western Australia's NCC 7-star energy requirements have applied to all new homes and major renovations since May 2025. An uninsulated garage door performs at approximately R0.0 — one of the biggest thermal liabilities in any home. ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation in Australia with independently calculated assembly R-values to AS/NZS 4859.2:2018. When your builder or energy assessor asks about garage door insulation, ask for ThermaDoor by name.

A Real Home. A Real Result.

This was captured on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland — outside temperature just 28°C on an autumn afternoon. Perth summers regularly exceed 40°C and the afternoon sun hits west-facing doors hard. The same uninsulated door in Perth would be significantly worse.

For Deborah’s son, an NDIS participant, the garage is “The Cave” — a vital space for his independence and his support team. They had already invested in an epoxy floor and replastering to create something special. But the heat made it almost unusable.

The FLIR images below were taken on a completely ordinary autumn afternoon — outside temperature just 28°C. The uninsulated steel door was already radiating 44.7°C into the space. That is not a heatwave. That is a standard garage door making a mild day unbearable.

Deborah's west-facing door — ThermaDoor installed. 16 panels, clean white vinyl finish, epoxy floor.
The temperature in the space has dropped by at least 20 degrees, which has completely transformed how we can use it. Since installing ThermaDoor, it has become a comfortable, functional, and genuinely enjoyable environment. It has opened up a whole new level of independence and capacity building for my son and his team. This has been one of the most impactful upgrades we’ve made to our home.”

Verified R-Values You Can Trust

Thermal Bridging Through Steel Garage Door Hardware — FLIR Thermal Image

Surface temperature readings: 37.6°C at the steel hinge (thermal bridge) / 32.6°C at the ThermaDoor panel

What you are seeing: The blue areas show ThermaDoor panels doing their job — blocking radiant heat. The red and orange areas are the steel hinges and panel joins conducting heat straight through the door. This is thermal bridging, and it happens in every sectional garage door. It is why material R-values alone do not tell the full story — and why ThermaDoor’s R-values are calculated on the complete installed door assembly, steel and all.

Calculated on the Complete Installed Door – Not Just the Insulation Material

You have probably noticed that even with insulation on your garage door, the metal frame, hinges, and joins still get burning hot in summer. That heat travels through the steel and straight into your garage — this is called thermal bridging. It is why the R-value of the insulation panel alone does not tell you how well your garage door actually performs.

Under Australian Standards, insulation R-values for building compliance must be calculated as system (assembly) values — not just the material value. ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation kit in Australia with independently calculated, dual-season door assembly R-values:

R1.43 (winter) / R1.39 (summer)

ThermaDoor provides honest R-values — independently verified, calculated on the complete installed door, and published for anyone to review.

These values are calculated by a qualified thermal engineer to AS/NZS 4859.1 and AS/NZS 4859.2:2018. Standard uninsulated steel garage doors perform at approximately R0.0, providing virtually no thermal resistance.

When evaluating any garage door insulation product, always ask for the independent engineering report. If a supplier cannot provide one, the R-value they are quoting is not verified.

In Perth and Western Australia, the difference between a material R-value and a tested door assembly R-value is the difference between a product that looks good on paper and one that actually keeps your garage cooler. ThermaDoor’s R1.43 is tested on a complete installed door — steel, hinges, and all.

Our article on thermal bridging and garage doors explains why tested assembly values matter.

Before and after surface temperature readings of a garage door with and without ThermaDoor insulation
Before: 61°C surface temp. After ThermaDoor: 31°C. Disclaimer: Temperatures may vary depending on orientation and location of garage.

Three Layers. Engineered as One

High-Density EPS Core

Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year.

UV-Stable Vinyl Facing

Durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the panel from Australia's harsh climate. It resists fading, cracking, and weathering — delivering a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

Sisalation Foil Backing

Bonded to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat, acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier, and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification. It's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes — completing the three-layer system.

Garage Door Insulation Across Perth & Western Australia

Garage Door Insulation Perth are ThermaDoor’s official stockist for Western Australia, providing supply and professional installation coverage across the entire Perth metropolitan region.

No matter your location — from the northern suburbs to Mandurah, or the Hills to the coast — you will be looked after by a local expert who understands the specific demands of Western Australian homes.

Perth Northern Suburbs Service Area

Garage Door Insulation Perth services all suburbs from the Swan River up to Yanchep, including Joondalup, Wanneroo, Hillarys, Duncraig, Clarkson, Balcatta, Morley, Scarborough, and surrounding areas. The northern corridor is one of Perth’s fastest-growing regions, with newer homes and large double garages that are particularly exposed to the intense summer heat — making garage door insulation one of the most effective upgrades a homeowner can make.

Perth Southern Suburbs Service Area

Garage Door Insulation Perth covers all suburbs from the river down to Mandurah, including Fremantle, Cockburn, Rockingham, Melville, Canning Vale, Armadale, Baldivis, and the Peel region. The southern suburbs experience strong afternoon sun exposure and coastal humidity, both of which drive up garage temperatures and accelerate heat transfer into adjoining living areas — conditions that ThermaDoor is specifically engineered to address.

Perth Eastern Suburbs & Hills Service Area

Garage Door Insulation Perth also services the eastern corridor and Perth Hills, including Midland, Ellenbrook, Swan Valley, Kalamunda, Mundaring, Forrestfield, and Victoria Park. The Hills and eastern suburbs experience some of Perth’s most extreme temperature swings — scorching summer days followed by genuinely cold winter nights — making year-round thermal performance critical for garages used as workshops, home gyms, or living extensions.

Perth Western Suburbs Service Area

Garage Door Insulation Perth is ready to service the coastal strip and inner-west, including Cottesloe, Claremont, Subiaco, Nedlands, City Beach, Leederville, and East Fremantle. While the sea breeze keeps temperatures more moderate along the coast, the salt-laden air and high UV exposure in these suburbs can degrade unprotected garage door surfaces over time — ThermaDoor’s durable vinyl laminate finish adds a protective layer while delivering real thermal and acoustic benefits.

DIY kits ship to all Western Australian postcodes.

It delivers an independently calculated thermal value of R1.43 (winter) and R1.39 (summer) specifically within the garage door environment.

Yes. In addition to thermal benefits, ThermaDoor insulation significantly reduces acoustic transfer.
