Home / Garage Door Insulation Newcastle & Hunter Valley – DIY & Pro Install

Purpose-Built. Independently Tested. Since 2012.

Newcastle and the Hunter Valley sit in one of NSW’s most climatically demanding zones. Summer temperatures in Cessnock, Maitland and the upper Hunter regularly exceed 40°C, while coastal suburbs like Merewether and Belmont deal with humidity and salt air year-round. An uninsulated garage door turns your garage into an oven in summer and a cold box in winter.

These temperature extremes affect more than just the garage. They impact the comfort of nearby rooms, drive up your energy bills, and cut off a valuable part of your home year-round.

ThermaDoor garage door insulation is purpose-built for the Newcastle and Hunter Valley climate. Our premium EPS panels are engineered specifically for sectional and tilt doors to block up to 90% of radiant heat, reduce street noise, and instantly upgrade your garage with a durable, wipe-clean vinyl finish.

Proudly Australian owned and manufactured, we offer two simple ways to get ThermaDoor in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley: order a DIY kit delivered directly to your door, or book a professional installation with our certified local technicians.

Australian Made. Australian Owned.

ThermaDoor is designed and manufactured in Queensland, with our factory at Chevallum on the Sunshine Coast. When you order a ThermaDoor DIY kit for delivery to Newcastle & the Hunter Valley, you are buying Australian made insulation from a business that has engineered its product specifically for the Australian climate — not an imported generic kit adapted for local conditions.

Built for Newcastle & Hunter Valley's Climate

Built for Summer Heat

From the humid coastal days in Newcastle to the intense dry heat of the Hunter Valley, ThermaDoor dramatically reduces radiant heat transfer, keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer.

Extreme Temperature Swings

The Hunter Valley can swing 20°C or more between a summer morning and afternoon. An uninsulated garage door offers no resistance to that heat load — the space heats up fast and stays hot long after sunset. ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish is water resistant and impact resistant, unlike open-cell foam or polyester batts that absorb moisture and deteriorate over time.

Cold Winters — Warmer Than You Think

Inland areas like Cessnock, Maitland and Singleton experience sharp overnight drops in winter, regularly falling to 2-5°C. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight, so stepping into your garage on a winter morning is no longer a shock — and your stored gear, tools, and vehicles stay protected from the cold year-round.

Here is how ThermaDoor changes what you can do with your garage.

Home Gyms

Train comfortably year-round — no more sweltering summers or chilly winters.

Home Offices

Quieter, more stable temperatures for better focus and lower energy bills.

Man Caves

A retreat that stays cool in summer and warm in winter for real downtime.

Hobby Studios

Consistent conditions that protect materials and make projects more enjoyable.

Playrooms

A safer, more comfortable space for children’s play – fewer drafts and hot/cold spots.

Pet Rooms

A calmer climate for pets, reducing heat stress in summer and chills in winter.

The Original. Still the Only.

ThermaDoor has been on the Australian market since 2012 — and in that time, no other brand has matched what we offer:

Before and after surface temperature readings of a garage door with and without ThermaDoor insulation
Before: 61°C surface temp. After ThermaDoor: 31°C. Disclaimer: Temperatures may vary depending on orientation and location of garage.

Verified R-Values You Can Trust

Under Australian Standards, insulation R-values used for building compliance must be calculated as system (assembly) values — not just the raw material.

Most garage door insulation products only quote R-values based on walls, floors, or ceilings or material values.  These numbers do not reflect how the product actually performs once installed in a moving garage door.

ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation kit in Australia with independently calculated, dual-season door assembly R-values:

R1.43 (winter) / R1.39 (summer)

These values are calculated by a qualified thermal engineer to AS/NZS 4859.1 and AS/NZS 4859.2:2018 for the complete installed door assembly — not just the insulation panel on its own.

Our article on thermal bridging and garage doors explains why tested assembly values matter.

Three Layers. Engineered as One

High-Density EPS Core

Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year.

UV-Stable Vinyl Facing

Durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the panel from Australia's harsh climate. It resists fading, cracking, and weathering — delivering a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.

Sisalation Foil Backing

Bonded to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat, acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier, and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification. It's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes — completing the three-layer system.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

David Dee

Karen and the crew were fantastic to deal with from start to finish. The product is amazing and has decreased the temperature in our garage by 10–15 degrees C and also decreased the temp in our house. It was super easy to self install. Massive thumbs up!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Paul Bonner

“Our garage was very hot and a suggestion from a friend meant that we contact ThermaDoor. From the initial contact to the completion, the company was very professional. The product is very good and I would definitely get their team to install. Today Don arrived on time and got the job done very quickly. The addition of the door seals was a good decision as they remove any dust and breeze that used to come through the sides and top.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lorraine Lazzar

“Garage temps have dropped 4–6°C since installation and so glad we installed the ThermaDoor panels. We built a new house in 2023/2024 and the garage door gets full western sun every afternoon. I made sure to take note of our garage temps before installation and noticed immediately after installation the temp dropped 4–6°C in summer and in winter it’s not as cold. I also noticed the noise is reduced.”
