For Garage Door Systems
Building to 7 stars? ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation with the engineering documentation your energy assessor needs.
ThermaDoor is designed and manufactured in Queensland, with our factory at Chevallum on the Sunshine Coast. When you order ThermaDoor in Melbourne or anywhere in Victoria, you are buying Australian made insulation from a business that has engineered its product specifically for the Australian climate.
Melbourne's summers are unpredictable but the heat is real. Northerly winds push garage temperatures well past 50°C in an uninsulated space, and west-facing doors cop it hardest. ThermaDoor's EPS core and reflective foil backing work together to block radiant heat and keep the garage usable, whether your door faces north, west, or straight into the afternoon sun.
Victoria's weather swings are hard on uninsulated spaces. Summer heat, autumn rain, cold snaps and everything in between puts pressure on your garage environment year-round. ThermaDoor's laminated vinyl finish is water resistant and impact resistant, unlike open-cell foam, polyester batts, or fibreglass insulation that absorb moisture and deteriorate over time. Built to handle whatever Victoria throws at it.
Melbourne winters are genuinely cold, with overnight temperatures regularly dropping to single digits. ThermaDoor slows heat loss overnight, so stepping into your garage on a winter morning is not the shock to the system it used to be — and your stored gear, tools, and vehicles stay protected from the cold year-round.
Victoria's NCC 7-star energy requirements have applied to all new homes and major renovations since May 2024. An uninsulated garage door performs at approximately R0.0 — one of the biggest thermal liabilities in any home. ThermaDoor is the only garage door insulation in Australia with independently calculated assembly R-values to AS/NZS 4859.2:2018. When your builder or energy assessor asks about garage door insulation, ask for ThermaDoor by name.

“I took the time to do my research and was able to find ThermaDoor. I can honestly say it was the only product on the market that I felt was actually going to perform to the highest possible standard. It felt like a consultation based on data and not a sales pitch — but it was very interesting to hear about some of the traps of cheap products who actually will have a significantly inferior performance.”
Matthew converted his garage into a home gym and spent time researching every insulation option on the market before choosing ThermaDoor. Melbourne’s summer northerlies push uninsulated garage temperatures well past 50°C — a home gym becomes unusable without proper insulation. ThermaDoor’s three-layer panel system delivers independently tested R-values that cheap foam alternatives cannot match.
Peter Harding shares his experience with ThermaDoor garage door insulation after having it installed three times over 12 years.
With a stable, comfortable temperature year-round, Melbourne and Victoria homeowners are reclaiming their garages as usable living spaces.
Here is how ThermaDoor changes what you can do with your garage.
Train comfortably year-round — no more sweltering summers or chilly winters.
Quieter, more stable temperatures for better focus and lower energy bills.
A retreat that stays cool in summer and warm in winter for real downtime.
Consistent conditions that protect materials and make projects more enjoyable.
A safer, more comfortable space for children’s play – fewer drafts and hot/cold spots.
A calmer climate for pets, reducing heat stress in summer and chills in winter.
ThermaDoor has been on the Australian market since 2012 — and in that time, no other brand has matched what we offer:

Surface temperature readings: 37.6°C at the steel hinge (thermal bridge) / 32.6°C at the ThermaDoor panel
What you are seeing: The blue areas show ThermaDoor panels doing their job — blocking radiant heat. The red and orange areas are the steel hinges and panel joins conducting heat straight through the door. This is thermal bridging, and it happens in every sectional garage door. It is why material R-values alone do not tell the full story — and why ThermaDoor’s R-values are calculated on the complete installed door assembly, steel and all.
In Melbourne and Victoria, the difference between a material R-value and a tested door assembly R-value is the difference between a product that looks good on paper and one that actually keeps your garage cooler. ThermaDoor’s R1.43 is tested on a complete installed door — steel, hinges, and all.
Our article on thermal bridging and garage doors explains why tested assembly values matter.

Flame retardant, construction-grade expanded polystyrene foam is the primary insulator in every ThermaDoor panel. It slows conducted heat transfer through the door — keeping your garage significantly cooler in summer and warmer in winter, year after year.
Durable, flame retardant, UV-resistant vinyl facing protects the panel from Australia's harsh climate. It resists fading, cracking, and weathering — delivering a clean, professional finish that holds its appearance and structural integrity for the life of the door.
Bonded to the back of every panel, this construction-grade foil reflects radiant heat, acts as a Class 2 vapour barrier, and achieves Group 1 fire performance classification. It's the same foil used to wrap Australian homes — completing the three-layer system.

Posted on Google Caroline nTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We purchased a DIY kit for our garage door to cool it down before installing a solar battery. We are really impressed with the results and have noticed a significant difference in the temperature since adding the insulation. Very glad we did it!
Owner's reply
Thank you so much, Caroline, this is exactly why we do what we do! 🙌 Preparing the garage for a solar battery is one of the smartest reasons to insulate first, and you've nailed the order of operations. Our customers regularly report temperature reductions of up to 20°C. A cooler garage isn't just more comfortable it's a better environment for battery storage. Most solar battery manufacturers specify an optimal operating temperature range, and an uninsulated steel garage door in an Australian summer can push well outside that range. You've protected your investment before it even arrived. Very glad we could be part of that.Posted on Google Shane WTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thermadoor's garage door insulation is the best. I have tried others and they dont even come close. Thermadoor is easy to install and the panel looks great. It looks very professional and not like an after thought. I cannot recommend this product enpugh. You will not be disappointed if you choose to go with Thermadoor insulation. Photos to come
Owner's reply
Thank you, Shane — "they don't even come close" is high praise and we genuinely appreciate you taking the time to share that. You've touched on something we hear a lot... ThermaDoor looks like it belongs on the door, not like something that was added as an afterthought. That comes down to the factory-laminated vinyl face and the mechanical fix system, which keeps everything flush and tight. It's designed to look like part of the door because it essentially becomes part of the door. We also love receiving photos from our customers and we're looking forward to seeing yours when they're ready! 📸Posted on Google Deborah RTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I cannot speak highly enough of ThermaDoor and the product they have created. It is quite simply second to none. We had ThermaDoor installed on our new 16 panel, fully west facing garage door, and the result has exceeded anything I could have hoped for. The temperature in the space has now dropped by at least 20 degrees, which has completely transformed how we can use it. Our garage is not just a garage , it’s “the Cave” for my son, who is an NDIS participant, and his support team. We had already invested in an epoxy floor and replastering the space, but despite that, the heat made it almost unusable. Since installing ThermaDoor, it has become a comfortable, functional, and genuinely enjoyable environment. It has opened up a whole new level of independence and capacity building for my son and his team. The product itself looks premium, fits beautifully, and has made the space noticeably quieter as well , something I didn’t expect but absolutely love. Another positive for me is that the core product Is aesthetically pleasing with a beautiful vinyl panelling covering that finishes the door to a higher standard, Another 5 ⭐️ stand out of a quality solution. And then there is the service. Peter and Karen were nothing short of exceptional — knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping us achieve the best outcome for our son to make his space a home away from home! This has been one of the most impactful upgrades we’ve made to our home, and I know it will carry us just as beautifully through winter as it has through summer. I am so grateful, thank you for helping us create a space that truly supports my son’s world and capacity building Deb4Sammy Mountain Creek
Owner's reply
Deb, thank you, this means so much to us. We are genuinely honoured to have played a part in creating a space that works for your son and his support team. "The Cave" is exactly what a space like this should be... comfortable, functional, and truly his own. The fact that a 20°C temperature drop has opened up a whole new level of independence and capacity building is everything we could hope to hear. We are so glad they could be part of your family's story. Thank you for trusting us with it. Peter & Karen🙏Posted on Google 81micmicTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Everything about ThermaDoor was fantastic. Easy online ordering, fast interstate delivery and DIY installation was straight forward and a breeze. I would recommend the business and the product.

We believe happy customers are the best outcome we can achieve. Thank you for sharing your experience, we really appreciate you taking the time to let others know. Peter & KarenPosted on Google Paul BTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our garage was very hot and a suggestion from a friend meant that we contact Thermadoor. From the initial contact to the completion, the company was very professional. The product is very good and I would definitely get their team to install. Today Don arrived on time and got the job done very quickly. The addition of the door seals was a good decision as they remove any dust and breeze that used to come through the sides and top. The door closer mechanism was modified to close with the extra panels and it is much quieter. I would recommend this company for the great job at a very reasonable price.
Owner's reply
Thank you, Paul we are really glad Don could get the job done efficiently and that the whole experience from first contact through to installation met the mark. The door seals are an often underestimated part of the system. Once people experience the difference in dust, draughts, pests and noise they wonder how they managed without them. The spring and closer adjustment is something we always include as part of a professional install, so it's great to hear that came through in the result. Thanks again for the kind words and for the recommendation. Peter & Karen🙌Posted on Google Lorraine LTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Short review: Garage temps have dropped 4c to 6c since installation and so glad we installed the ThermaDoor panels. Long review: We built a new house in 2023/2024 and the garage door gets full western sun every afternoon plus we also have side glass doors on the garage for side access so it also gets lots of sun and heat. I made sure to take note of our garage temps before installation and noticed immediately after installation the temp dropped 4c to 6c in summer and in winter its not as cold and I also noticed the noise is less, so straight away money well spent. The garage just feels more comfortable on very hot days and you really notice the difference when you open the garage door and walk out into the front yard. The install guys were really nice and local for us (Sydney) and after panel installation they also serviced our garage door to make sure everything was OK and I appreciated their extra care and clean up afterwards. Installation didnt take long and the garage door looks great, you wouldnt know it was there unless I pointed it out to you. Well worth the investment in insulating our garage door and Ive recommended them quite a few times since. Edit. We installed the Premium panels

Thank you for your kind words Lorraine. We are so glad ThermaDoor Premium has made a difference in your circumstances!Posted on Google David DTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Karen and the crew were fantastic to deal with from start to finish. The product is amazing and has decreased the temperature in our garage by 10-15 degrees C and also decreased the temp in our house. It was super easy to self instal. Massive thumbs up!

Thanks so much for your review David. We’re so glad ThermaDoor Premium met your expectations!Posted on Google Paul VTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Big thanks to Karen & the team, great people to deal with. Panels have been in over 2 years and work great. Huge reduction in heat within garage, great product.
Owner's reply
Thank you, Paul. Two years in and still working great is exactly what we build them for. Karen will love seeing this! 😊 Longevity is something we're proud of — the factory-laminated construction holds up to the daily movement and Australian conditions in a way that glued or retrofit solutions simply don't over time. Really appreciate you coming back to leave a review. Ready to transform your garage?
Yes — and Melbourne’s climate is one of the strongest arguments for it. Summer northerlies push uninsulated garage temperatures past 50°C, while winter overnight lows regularly drop to single digits. ThermaDoor’s EPS core and reflective foil backing work in both directions, blocking radiant heat in summer and slowing heat loss in winter. The result is a garage that stays 10 to 15 degrees closer to ambient temperature year-round, which makes a measurable difference to both comfort and energy bills in a home with an attached garage.

Yes. ThermaDoor’s laminated vinyl finish is water resistant and impact resistant, which means it handles rain, humidity and temperature swings without absorbing moisture or deteriorating. Unlike fibreglass batts or open-cell foam products that can sag or absorb moisture over time, ThermaDoor panels are purpose-built to maintain performance through the full range of Victorian weather conditions.

Yes. Since May 2024, all new homes and major renovations in Victoria must achieve a 7-star NatHERS energy rating. An uninsulated garage door is a thermal bridge that leaks heat in winter and absorbs it in summer, dragging down your home’s overall efficiency. By installing ThermaDoor, you add a verified assembly R-value of R1.43 (winter) to the largest opening in your home, significantly improving its thermal envelope and helping you align with the new 7-star standards.
